Who we are

At the Oxford Brookes School of Architecture, we are dedicated to cultivating the next generation of architects and spatial leaders who embody humanitarian, sustainable, and innovative principles in their practice.

Innovative Thinking: We champion an approach that integrates pioneering technology, critical theory, and experimental making. We encourage students to challenge conventional norms, explore novel materials, and utilise advanced digital tools to reimagine the possibilities of architecture. This spirit of innovation ensures our graduates are agile, adaptable, and ready to lead the future of the profession.

Humanitarian Design: We place people at the centre of our creative process, emphasising the social responsibility of architecture and spatial justice. Our graduates are equipped to design spaces that are inclusive, equitable, and genuinely improve the quality of life for diverse communities, addressing issues such as affordable housing, displacement, and social justice. We believe architecture is a powerful tool for positive societal change.

Sustainable Practice: We are committed to tackling the climate emergency through ecologically conscious design. Our curriculum integrates cutting-edge knowledge in environmental performance, low-carbon materials, circular economy principles, and biodesign. We foster a mindset focused on long-term ecological viability, ensuring our projects minimise environmental impact and contribute to a resilient, regenerative built environment.

The Oxford Brookes School of Architecture is a hub where academic rigor meets real-world application, fostering a vibrant culture of critique and collaboration. We are committed to nurturing professionals who design not just for the present, but with a deep, ethical responsibility to translate their vision into meaningful and measurable outcomes for society and the planet.

What we do and How we do it

Imagine (Innovation/Humanitarian): Captures the creative vision, challenging norms, and the initial spark of the design process, especially the imaginative solutions needed for complex social and environmental problems.

Iterate (Sustainable/Innovation): This is the core of sustainable design and innovation—the process of testing, refining, prototyping, and improving a solution (e.g., thermal performance, material choice) to achieve a responsible outcome. It reflects the experimental, research-led approach and on-the-spot problem-solving.

Impact (Humanitarian/Sustainable): The school is committed to real-world change and empathetic leadership. The ultimate goal is not just a building, but a measurable, positive effect on people and the planet.
